After a decade filled with controversy the 303-mile-long Mountain Valley Pipeline became operational on June 13, 2024. Crossing several Appalachian counties, the pipeline has been a flashpoint for environmentalists concerned with the impact of expanding fossil fuel use on global warming, local industry and residents anxious to secure a reliable low cost energy source.
