President Trump announced recently in an exclusive interview with HBO’s Axios that he plans to get rid of birthright citizenship with an executive order. Constitutional scholars and political commentators have debated whether or not President Trump has the authority to get rid of birthright citizenship with executive action. Most believe that such citizenship is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment, and would require action by Congress or the states.
The news of citizenship policy comes as a migrant caravan made up of thousands of refugees are heading towards the United States’ southern border. The caravan has been a cause of concern for President Trump, as he has deployed active military troops to the border to defend against the caravan.
