In 2017 alone, there were 307 mass shootings in the United States. In light of the most recent shooting in Florida, people are coming together in efforts to promote change in legislation regarding gun control. While the issue has been one of debate for quite some time now, the constant stream of mass shootings over the past year have pushed people to feel that enough is enough.
Organized events, like protests, walkouts, and marches have been planned around the country to support Florida victims, as well as victims affected by other recent shootings. The most recent announcement is a call for a national school walkout on March 14th at 10am, in which participants are asked to walk out of school for seventeen minutes, one minute for each victim of the Florida shooting.
Protesters and event participants hope that these movements will finally bring about change in government legislation and put an end to these mass casualties that seem to have become all too familiar to society.
