People of all ages are falling into what is known as the “selfie culture.” Whether it is taking a selfie in a group, or alone, some people just can’t seem to stop taking pictures of themselves. Selfies can be taken to show friends and family having a good time together, or taken when someone thinks they look attractive. Selfies have become so much of a social norm that even selfie sticks have been created for prime picture taking. The selfie stick can be used to take pictures on your camera roll or on Snapchat. The only difference between the two is that the picture from the camera roll can be uploaded to social media sites, while the Snapchat selfies disappear after ten seconds.

But it isn’t only college students who are taking selfies and posting them online. There is a rise in the younger generation taking selfies and posting them to social media sites. Some Virginia Tech students have even seen their younger siblings posting Instagram selfies once a week.

Social media trends are evolving everyday, and the selfie seems to be the hot topic on many Virginia Tech students lips at the moment. It’s interesting to think about the direction that selfies and social media will take next.
